The world is fucking crazy. Capitalism causes most of the trauma that leads to addiction. Now capitalism is co-opting addiction recovery, which must require behavior in direct opposition to capitalist goals, to create more trauma and keep feeding itself.
There is a level of disassociation from yourself and particularly your body that capitalism requires. You and your body deserve nothing and your body does not belong to you. It belongs to your employer, now modified by the 13th Amendment to exclude anyone and everyone a current or former resident of a prison cell. If you had to modify the Constitution to exclude slavery doesn’t that mean the original Constitution permitted it? It’s still permitted. Slavery is still permitted under the United States Constitution if you enslave people who have been convicted of a crime.
We live under a government that says you don’t own you and you don’t know who you are. That philosophy and the violence with which it has been carried out has destroyed the people living in this country. This patch of land, stolen and bloodied so many times, is now full of people who are just totally dead inside. Some days I feel like that includes me. It feels like none of us are responsible for each other anymore. Maybe we all never were and I’m just catching on. I feel like I’ve been fooled for so long into thinking humans are good. It’s just propaganda for paying taxes.
