Listen, I know SRS and thus Fightful think the Rhodes are corny as shit. I agree. Cody Rhodes is very easy to hate. He is the spoiled crown Prince of wrestling (his words in his intro, not mine) who hasn’t done anything to earn the legacy his dad built from absolutely nothing. If your dad is famous and beloved for representing the everyday working citizen maybe don’t market yourself as some Kate Spade baby shoe buying wealthy elite?
But to pretend like we don’t know why Brandi wore a disguise when running through the crowd … come on. Well I don’t know, what the fuck is the purpose of a disguise, Sean? So people don’t know who is coming to the ring. The match was at the height of its intensity with Cody bleeding and the crowd knowing that 10 PM was approaching fast. There have been a ton of people involved with the feud spanning Pac, the Lucha Bros, Malikai Black and more. Is it so ridiculous that the person who was going to run in at the last minute and set fire to the table would wear a disguise?
Seriously. In a match where a weight belt is used to work the crowd we are tweeting about whether it was reasonable within kayfabe for Brandi Rhodes to wear a disguise to the ring? We are really going to go through the mental gymnastics of not pretending to not know what the fuck a disguise is supposed to do, first of all, and then to also pretend like we don’t understand why an ally of one of the competitors would disguise themselves to run through the crowd to help one of them?
Truly, I understand why people hate Cody Rhodes. I find him fascinating and am watching him because I’m trying to figure out if he’s doing some meta-heel shit by claiming not to turn heel all the while doing the very things that he knows makes the fans hate them. Hell that’s another little blurb in and of itself.
But sometimes I see tweets from people I otherwise agree with and can follow as far as a logical train of thought. Imagine my surprise when I see SRS pretending that Brandi wearing a disguise was some kind of ridiculous unbelievable move that made no sense. If she had worn a disguise and came down the RAMP with an ENTRANCE only to reveal herself to be Brandi Rhodes? That would have been nonsense. And exactly what Bryan Danielson did on Dark this week.
